A cement silo is a key piece of equipment used for the safe storage of powdered construction materials, especially in stationary concrete batching plants, mobile concrete plants and chemical additive facilities.
Cement delivered in bulk trucks (silobas) or in bags is stored inside the silo to ensure it’s always ready for use. In addition to cement, the silo can also store other fine powders such as fly ash, silica fume, bentonite, and calcite, making it a versatile solution for various industrial needs.
Cement silos are available in capacities ranging from 50 tons to 3000 tons, and can be manufactured in different configurations based on project requirements. Options include:

The welded type cement silo is ideal for short installation times and short-distance transportation. It is transported as a single piece and installed using a crane without the need for assembly on site. Welded silos are typically manufactured in capacities ranging from 50 to 150 tons.
Bolted type cement silos are ideal for high-capacity storage and projects that require long-distance transportation. For models over 150 tons, the silo dimensions exceed transport limits, making modular shipment the most efficient solution.
Each component is manufactured using precision laser cutting technology. Silos are shipped in 40″ OT containers or by truck, significantly reducing transportation costs and simplifying on-site installation.
The mobile (horizontal) cement silo is specifically designed for use with mobile asphalt plants or mobile concrete batching plants. It operates without the need for a concrete foundation before installation, significantly reducing site preparation time and setup costs.
The silo is mounted on a chassis with single or double axles and has a storage capacity of 30 m³ (approximately 40 tons). Cement is discharged from the system via a screw conveyor located beneath the silo body.
A screw conveyor is designed to transfer bulk materials like cement or similar substances between a silo and a production unit. The screw’s diameter and length are customized based on the material type, transfer distance, and required capacity. MBA Asphalt provides specially designed screw conveyor systems that integrate smoothly with silos, ensuring efficient material handling.
When cement is filled into a silo using a silo truck, high air pressure is introduced into the silo. As this air exits along with the cement, it causes dust formation. To prevent this, a special filter system is installed at the top of the silo.
The cement silo filter prevents environmental pollution and enhances workplace safety. It also prevents the formation of excessive pressure inside the silo.
MBA cement silos are fully integrated into the production process with the following equipment:
Butterfly Valve: Installed on the silo discharge flange. It stops the flow of cement during screw replacement or maintenance.
Level Sensors: Measure the minimum and maximum fill levels within the silo. Optional radar level sensors allow real-time measurement.
Pressure Relief Valve: Balances negative or positive pressure that may occur during filling, protecting the silo and filter.
Air Jet: Facilitates the discharge process by fluidizing the cement in the conical section of the silo.
Star Feeder (Airlock): Controls the flow in the screw line and helps keep the line clean after production.
